SteamCMD Workshop Download Command

• In your browser, open the game's Steam Workshop, then click one mod, map or other item to open its details page. Copy the full URL from the browser's address bar. Do not use a collection, search results or the game's store page.
• Use the tool link below to open WorkshopFetch in another tab. Paste the address and run the lookup. Check that the returned title and game match the item you wanted.
• If Steam provides a public file link, you can use that option. Otherwise, continue only if the result provides a SteamCMD command. Keep that result tab open: you will copy its command at step 5.

• Use the Windows download link below. Your browser downloads steamcmd.zip from Valve; this is the SteamCMD program, not your Workshop file.
• Right-click steamcmd.zip in your Downloads folder and choose Extract All. Set the destination to C:\SteamCMD and extract it. If you use a different folder, remember where it is.
• Open the extracted folder. Do not run the program from inside the ZIP archive.
• If Windows will not let you extract to C:\SteamCMD, create a SteamCMD folder inside your Documents folder and extract there. Use that actual location when looking for files at step 7.

• In the extracted folder, double-click steamcmd.exe. Windows may show it as steamcmd when file extensions are hidden.
• A text window opens and SteamCMD may download its own updates. Leave the window open. If it closes after updating, open steamcmd.exe again.
• Wait until you see Steam>. This is where you enter the commands below; do not type the Steam> characters themselves.

• Click in the SteamCMD window, type login anonymous exactly as shown below, and press Enter. Wait for the login result before typing the download command.
• Some games require your own account. If anonymous login or an anonymous download is denied, close SteamCMD, reopen it, and wait for Steam>. Skip login anonymous this time. Type login, one space, and your own Steam sign-in account name, then press Enter. Use the sign-in name, not your public profile nickname.
• Enter your password or Steam Guard code only when the SteamCMD program on your PC asks for it. Password characters may not appear while you type; press Enter when finished. If Steam still refuses access, stop and check your game ownership and permissions.
• Continue only after SteamCMD has finished signing in without an error and is ready for another command. If login failed, resolve that first; do not run the download command yet.

• Return to the result tab from step 1 and click Copy command beside your own workshop_download_item command. Click the SteamCMD window, press Ctrl + V to paste, then Enter to run that one line. If the shortcut does not paste, try right-clicking inside the window.
• The two numbers identify your game and Workshop item. Keep the generated command unchanged. If the result has no command, do not guess the IDs.

• Keep SteamCMD open while it is downloading. A large item can take time; do not close the window just because no browser download appears.
• Look for a message confirming that the item was downloaded and showing where it was saved. Seeing Steam> again, by itself, does not prove success: read the lines immediately above it.
• If you see a failure or access error, do not continue as if the files were complete. Read the troubleshooting notes below first.

• Use the save location reported by SteamCMD. Copy only the folder path, without the surrounding message or quotation marks. Press Windows + E to open File Explorer, paste it into the address bar at the top, and press Enter.
• If you extracted SteamCMD to C:\SteamCMD, a common location for the example item is shown below. For your own item, the last two folders use its App ID and Published File ID. A different SteamCMD folder changes the beginning of the path.
• If that folder does not exist, recheck the download message and actual save path. Do not assume the file went into your browser's Downloads folder.

• After the download has finished, type quit in SteamCMD and press Enter to close it.
• A downloaded file is not necessarily an installed or enabled mod. Read the original Workshop page for the creator's installation steps, required items and supported game version.
• Back up saves before changing the game. If you cannot find installation instructions, check the game's official help; do not move files into a guessed folder.
